Zero-Downtime Migration of a Live Trading Platform
The client operated a monolithic on-premise trading platform that had accumulated a decade of technical debt. Deployments were manual, outages were frequent, and infrastructure costs were climbing with every new market the business entered. The mandate was clear: modernize without ever taking the trading floor offline.
We decomposed the monolith into 14 domain-aligned microservices, containerized each with Docker, and orchestrated them on Amazon EKS across two availability zones. A strangler-fig routing layer allowed us to shift traffic service-by-service, validating each cutover against live data before committing. The final switchover happened mid-week, during peak trading hours, with zero dropped transactions.
Post-launch, automated CI/CD pipelines reduced average deployment time from two days to under twenty minutes, and rollback safety nets gave the team the confidence to ship continuously. The platform has not recorded a single unplanned outage in the eighteen months since go-live.
